Do you ever feel like you’ve suddenly turned into a Snowman or Snowman overnight? Whether you’re trying to burn belly fat or you’re happy with your current belly, bloating can throw you off. Bloating and actually belly fat gain can feel the same, so it’s easy to confuse the two. However, belly fat is very different from water and gas, which is often the reason why we bloat. But don’t worry I have 7 de-bloating tips sure to flatten your belly in 24 hours.
01. HYDRATE UP
It may sound unusual, but drinking a lot of water won’t blow you up, drinking water consistently throughout the day gives your body permission to flush out some of its stored gas. A good rule of thumb is that you need 0.5-1oz. of water for every 1lb. you weigh…every day. For example, if you weigh 140 lbs., you should be drinking between 70-140 oz of water daily.
02. BEWARE OF NATURAL SWEETENERS
Foods that are made up of certain natural sweeteners, can still supersize your belly. Sweeteners like Aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet, NatraTaste Blue), Sucralose(Splenda), Acesulfame K (ACE K, Sunette, Equal Spoonful, Sweet One, Sweet ‘n Safe) and
Saccharin (Sweet ‘N Low, Sweet Twin) are used in everything from gum to energy bars and they play serious games with your gastrointestinal tract and cause gas, cramping, bloating, and even diarrhea if you eat too much of them. I recommend sticking with Stevia, if you find that you need a natural sweetener to use. Stevia is 100% plant-based, contains zero calories, and works the best with your gastrointestinal tract.
03. VIVA LA FIBER
Fiber is key for staying healthy. It keeps your digestive system chugging along smoothly and helps you feel satiated for longer, which is a plus if burning belly fat is what you’re after. I recommend having 20 and 25 grams of fiber per day and drinking a lot of water along with any fiber foods to help your body digest more easily. My go-to fiber foods are: black beans, raspberries, oatmeal, blackberries, brussel sprouts, peas and artichokes.
04. BYE BYE SALT
When we eat sodium, our body retains water to try to maintain the proper balance in your bloodstream. I recommend staying below 2,500 milligrams of sodium a day if possible, and again, drinking water throughout is key for preventing bloating.
05. EMBRACE ASPARAGUS
Asparagus is rich in potassium, which helpS regulate the fluid balance in your body and counteract all of the salt you may have consumed that has made you feel bloated. Chop some up and saute with a little coconut oil and ground pepper or add it to your soup or salad.
06. GO FOR GINGER
Ginger is the secret to soothe a bloated belly. I recommend buying fresh ginger so you can reap its full benefits, such as easing your stomach when it’s feeling a little upset. It can have quite a strong taste if you aren’t used to it. Try grating some into a glass of hot water or hot tea with some freshly squeezed lemon or honey to dilute the taste a little. If that doesn’t sound like something you can stomach try adding some fresh ginger to a smoothie.
07. POP A PROBIOTIC
Probiotics can help to reduce bloating by restoring the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut. You can find probiotics in food sources such as natural yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi and other pickled foods. You can also take a supplement (I have my own here), however remember to check the ingredients for any sugars or additives.
